Doesn't sound like a bird, cheap plastic, even cheaper little metal spring clip to hold it in. We thought this kettle and "bird" whistle would be as high-end as the price. Just a rip-off. My old Revereware kettle is back on the stove. This thing didn't last two weeks,... again. You have to pull it out, with hot steam gushing out, before you can pour the water. After a few pots you will toss it if it hasn't broken. zero stars

I have owned, and used daily one of these kettles since 1982 and I love it. Wouldn't own another. It looks like it did the day I purchased it. I've had to replace the birds about 3 times, and once one of them did break after a few weeks. The other two lasted for years. I've developed the art of pulling the bird from the spout quickly and have never been burned. If the kettle is overfilled, the owner will risk being burned when removing the bird because of hot boiling water rising up from the spout. Do not overfill it. This is the sturdiest tea kettle I've ever owned and I highly recommend it for any buyer. Before purchasing it I had gone through several expensive tea kettles only to have them break or chip. This kettle is outstanding, plus it looks classically beautiful!Way overpriced

It boils water. It looks pretty on the counter. It has maintained its luster. You can get your hand inside it to clean.
Beyond that it is just an expensive pot that doesn't have the usual features of a Tea kettle.
You can't pour water until you grab the hot plastic bird whistle and pull it out. With hot stream gushing out this is an interesting game. We went through a couple "birds" before we got one that even whistled and as many others have said, it doesn't sound like a bird. It sounds like the whistle of a guy who was just at the dentist. It also has a cheap wire spring clip and lasts about a month. We have some Alessi stuff. Some is good, some is like this, overpriced... way way overpriced. Did I mention that it is not worth the money.

This is a useful and artistically beautiful kettle. The whistle is not too loud but it whistles. You need to remove the bird whistle before pouring the hot water out and do not forget to use a glove as the escaping steam may burn your fingers.

This kettle was considered a classic piece of modern art to merit a spot at the Musem of Modern Art in New York City (I believe the version there is the anodized one which is no longer sold in the USA).

If you lose the whistle, you can replace it for under $15.00 depending where you purchase it from.

If you do not care about a beautiful piece of art in your kitchen then this kettle is not for you.

The Alesi Blow Up Basket is a unique and artistic basket design which can be useful as well. We like the basket and plan to use it as a fruit basket or a bread basket with a napkin lining. I am disappointed in some of the workmanship with respect to inconsistency among some the welds used to hold the metal "sticks" together. Fortunately, this problem only is visable upon inspection and generally would not be noticed. However, since the basket is a work of art, it is likely to attract more than a casual glance from some people, and therefore, the weld inconsistancy causes me to rate the product below 5 stars.

No phantasm, nothing eerie about the friendly, warm mist lifting from the gentle mound. The concise hills, like sandy camels kneeling in petition of an oasis, were baked and split Russet Burbank potatoes sending a steaming waft as a signal for butter, and for salt. A quick slip of a smooth knife delivered a melting slice of yellow cream.

A sprinkle from a common table shaker would not do. Not with a filet recently from the grill waiting. Not with a 1994 merlot resting before pouring. Not with green spring peas buttressing the steak. A plebeian salt could not do.

Salt ground from coarse to useful fell into invisible crevices, engaging the potato into evoking flavor. The filet, the merlot, the peas were better for having shared the plate with the potato. No more can be said for this simple salt's necessity. This is what it does. Nothing more.

May your potato's request be met with salt ground at the moment before dining.
