Under Fire [Region 2]
 · Actor: Nick Nolte | Ed Harris | Gene Hackman | Joanna Cassidy | Alma MartÃnez · Audience Rating: R (Restricted) · Binding: DVD · Creator ( Role: Cinematographer): John Alcott | ( Role: Editor): Mark Conte | ( Role: Producer): Anna Roth | ( Role: Producer): Edward Teets | ( Role: Producer): Jonathan T. Taplin | ( Role: Writer): Clayton Frohman | ( Role: Writer): Ron Shelton · Director: Roger Spottiswoode · EAN: 5050070008067 · Format: PAL · Number Of Discs: 1 · Product Group: DVD · Region Code: 2 · Running Time ( Units: minutes): 128 · Theatrical Release Date: 1983-10-21 » Under Fire is a savvy political thriller of journalists in war-torn Nicaragua circa 1979. Clayton Frohman and Ron Shelton's ( Bull Durham) script follows ace photojournalist Russell Price (Nick Nolte, in a key marquee performance) from the jungles of Africa to the Central American boiling point. Along with the usual band of fellow journalists, Price finds himself involved in a love triangle with Claire (Joanna Cassidy in her best role) and Alex Grazier (Gene Hackman, perfect again), who believes he's one career-making story from a lofty news anchor position. In Nicaragua, Price finds his own deadly mission: to photograph an unknown rebel leader. Although the setup is traditional, Roger Spottiswoode's film feels as alive and vital as the best of the genre. Showing his ambiguity for the lives he shoots, Price is just as friendly with the impoverished in Africa as with an icy mercenary, Oates (Ed Harris in a role the polar opposite of his breakthrough performance in The Right Stuff the same year). On one level, Oates and Price are simply Americans doing their jobs in a foreign land. But soon Price has a change of heart. Blessed by a splendid final-act action sequence that is unforced and emotionally charged, the film is stuffed with color and energy, a good dose of which is supplied by Jerry Goldsmith's Oscar-nominated score. --Doug Thomas EXCELENT SERVICE

An engrossing, still timely drama about the role of the news media in covering violent political conflicts, "Fire" asks us to consider the ethics of objectivity, dramatizing the political transformation of a man who, in an act of journalistic deception, chooses to choose sides. Nolte is excellent as Price, the rugged veteran who experiences a change of heart behind rebel lines, while Cassidy, Hackman, and Ed Harris, playing a steely soldier-for-hire, add further fuel to this "Fire" with gutsy supporting roles. A tense object lesson in the dangers of eyewitness reporting.

It's not quite "Deliverance", but it's better than a lot of thrillers where innocent campers are assaulted by unknown killers. I'd rank it above "Rituals" and it is definitely more intelligent and grounded than any of the "Last House on the Left" or "Hills Have Eyes" series of films. "Nightmare at Bitter Creek" features Lindsay Wagner, Joanna Cassidy and Tom Skerritt who give excellent and controlled performances. The director wisely keeps the killers faceless for most of the film. The plot is simple. Four women hire guides and horses to venture into a remote area of the rocky mountains where they plan to meet up with their husbands. Meanwhile, a group of anti-government survivalists are on the run after a shoot-out with a state police S.W.A.T. team. Now Federal agents are combing the wilderness in search of them. The four women and their guide(Tom Skerritt) cross paths with the killers who murder all their horses and stalk them with bad intentions. All of the action is plausible and pulse-quickening. Characters both good and bad are wounded and put through hell. There are no Jet Li kung fu tricks or John Woo twirling pistols. All the violent encounters are grounded and gut-wrenching. This is an admirable action-adventure effort. A few cliches hamper it in places. Tom Skerritt has a sly, self-deprecating wit, but his character is yet another alcoholic-who-makes-good and a cowboy who has outlived his profession. Linsay Wagner and Joanna Cassidy are both strong resourceful women who ultimately don't need men to protect them or a shoulder to cry on. The final shootout between the women and the survivalists is easily worth the price of the film. "Nightmare on Bitter Creek" will gain a cult following if enough people see it.

I remember watching 240-ROBERT as a young boy. It was a great show. I later became a deputy sheriff. A few years later an Emergency Services Detial was created in the county I worked for. 240-ROBERT deserves a lot of the credit for that. 240-ROBERT also deserves to be on DVD.I Remember!

All I can say is wow! I bought this on VHS when it first came out so glad its finally on DVD. out of all the live videos and dvd's that i have in my collection none of them are as clear or nicely produced as Anthrax's N.F.V.the sound quality is amazing and really has been a basis for comparison for me ever since it came out. Heavy as Hell, tight, and just amazing. This version of Medusa totally blew me away. I've seen Anthrax live probably about 3 times over the years and I will say this: This video actually captures the the power and intesity of the actual performance. Put it in crank the surround sound sit back and see them just like you were back in 1987.Slow paced and too feel good

This movie had potential - a low security lab + a highly lethal strain of anthrax = mass casualties, lots of panic and suspense while the town fights the authorities who come to quarantine them, thus spreading the bacteria all over America. Unfortunately this didn't happen. The terroist comes in, takes the anthrax with no trouble, infects an old man, tries to get $10 million out of the government, kidnps a kid, gets shot and all the stolen anthrax is retured. Only two people die. I kept waiting for something to happen, a bit of action but nothing did. Lucky I only paid $6 for it. It's a pitty because the acting was fine - the plot really let this movie down.

 · Actor: Christina Applegate | Joanna Cassidy | John Getz | Josh Charles | Keith Coogan · Aspect Ratio: 1.33:1 · Audience Rating: PG-13 (Parental Guidance Suggested) · Binding: DVD · Director: Stephen Herek · EAN: 4030521310360 · Format: PAL · Product Group: DVD · Region Code: 2 · Theatrical Release Date: 1991-06-07 » Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead aspires to be a cross between Home Alone and Risky Business, with Christina Applegate as an inadvertent scam artist who gets in over her head and somehow pulls it off. When her mother goes to Australia for two months, Sue Ellen (Applegate) thinks she's going to be in charge--until an elderly tyrant of a babysitter arrives. But on the very first night the old lady has a heart attack and keels over. Sue Ellen and her siblings leave the body at a mortuary, only to discover afterward that all the money their mother had left for the summer was in the babysitter's clothes. So Sue Ellen has to get a job. Thanks to a trumped-up resume, she ends up as an executive assistant at a clothing manufacturer. For a while she keeps her head above water by skillfully exploiting a friendly coworker, but her brothers and sisters are running amok at home and a venomous receptionist has it in for her at work. The role-reversal humor of Sue Ellen having to mother her siblings is unsurprising, but Applegate is unexpectedly appealing; her scenes with Josh Charles ( Dead Poet's Society, Threesome) have a sweet chemistry. Joanna Cassidy ( Blade Runner, The Laughing Policeman) plays Sue Ellen's boss and a young David Duchovny ( The X-Files, The Rapture) is a weaselly clerk. --Bret FetzerThe dishes are done, man!

This was a movie I loved to watch a lot when I was younger for two reasons: 1. Fashion 2. Applegate as an anti Kelly Bundy. This actually reminded me of when Applegate's character on "Married With Children" was sassy and not dumb. I love Swell's cheekiness in this movie. Yes it is far fetched for a just out of highschool fashionista to land an awesome job but it's hollywood, so we'll let it slide. Between Kenny's antics, Swell's job, Gus' sleazy come ons and a hotdog van, there's laughs all around... Christina Applegate, you go girl!

DON'T TELL MOM THE BABYSITTER IS DEAD was a hilarious movie that I recommend to anyone and was my first time seeing Christina Applegate(Sue-Ellen) playing a role as a bright serious gal as opposed to her role as the floozy & airheaded blonde bombshell(Kelley Bundy) on MARRIED WITH CHILDREN, which reminds me that MARRIED WITH CHILDREN was in its 5th Season on FOX when this movie was released in the Summer of 1991 just before the Bundy's 6th Season was underway.
This movie also co-stars Jayne Brook before her co-starring days as Dr. Diane Grad on CHICAGO HOPE, David Duchovny before his co-starring days on THE X-FILES, and Danielle Harris during her co-starring days on ROSANNE.

This movie rolls out every cliche of the coming-of-age and anti-war genres. Sensitive future writer protagonist? Check. Equally sensitive but troubled buddy? Check. Frigid [...] mom and hardass dad? Got it. Older brother shipping out, only to become cannon fodder on practically his first day in country? Yep.
(Warning: there be spoilers ahead.)
This movie feels as if it was transcribed directly from the writer/director's personal experience. That is not necessarily a good thing. The plot hits all the usual tropes - pot-smoking college students avoiding the draft, road trip in a VW van, budding romance with the best buddy's little sister. The film reaches its unlikely climax at the funeral of the previously mentioned older brother, in which Buddy's Little Sister delivers a tired anti-war sermon as if it's the first time anyone has said anything so brilliant. And to top it all off, the entire little town marches on City Hall to spring Buddy from jail (don't ask).
The only thing that saves this from a one-star rating is the cast. Keifer Sutherland is adorable as the sensitive future writer protagonist. Robert Downey Jr. plays the troubled best buddy (of course); he does what he can but the character is written inconsistently. Why would the free-spirited draft-dodger suddenly want to return to his hometown and get a job? Winona Ryder is cute as Downey's younger sister and Sutherland's love interest. Bruce Dern, Mariette Hartley and Joanna Cassidy are okay as the parents, but some of their actions seem to be without motivation.
I saw "1969" on cable at 2:45 a.m. That's exactly where it belongs.

Both a ridiculous suspense piece about a renegade intelligence community and an ill-considered hunk of do-gooder agitprop about alternative energy technology, Chain Reaction makes Reeves and almost everyone else involved look about as dumb as dumb can be. Hollywood's own Little Buddha plays a streetwise lab technician who survives an organized assault on his hydrogen-power project. The FBI assumes he's really a spy working for some foreign power, but the truth is that a CIA offshoot is behind the project's funding. Morgan Freeman plays the ramrod-straight company man who sabotages Keanu's excellent experiment, and Rachel Weisz portrays a physicist who goes on the run with the alleged saboteur. Directed by Andrew Davis ( The Fugitive), who seems more interested in seeing how many absurd places he can mount a chase scene than offering a solid clue as to who these characters are and why we should care about them. --Tom Keogh Chain Reaction
