Considering this is a remake of the William Castle "gimmick" b-movie, "Thirteen Ghosts" is more entertaining than it should be, but not a good as it could have been.

What I mean to say is that while I love the William Castle original film, Castle's version was more of a comedy with a nifty 3-D gimmick thrown in. The basic story of a family inheriting a haunted mansion was pure sitcom at best. And while there are some chills sprinkled through the original film, the humor is what I remember most about the film.

The remake does away with all of the humor and attempts to go for the jugular as a pure horror film. The basic storyline remains the same in that a family inherits a haunted house from a ghost hunting uncle. And like the original, 12 spirits inhabit the house...so who is the thirteenth ghost? You have to watch to find out.

Tony Shalhoub turns in a solid performance as Arthur Kriticos, the widower and family man who inherits the haunted home from his uncle. Shalhoub was only 1 year away from striking gold with his TV show "Monk" when this film came out, and I find it difficult watching "Thirteen Ghosts" now, and not thinking of the Monk character obsessing about fingerprints all over the glass house?!?! The rest of the cast is solid as well, with F. Murray Abraham chewing up scenes as the ghost hunting uncle and Matthew Lillard still hunting ghosts here in his pre-Shaggy days.

The special effects are pretty good, and the make-up for the various ghosts looks great. The glass house featured in the film is pretty inventive, and adds a nice touch of atmosphere. There are a few bumps and jumps that will jolt you out of your seat sprinkled throughout the film, but there is nothing in the movie that will stick with you past the end credits.

If you enjoyed the remake of "The House on Haunted Hill", then you will probably enjoy this film as well. If you are looking for a spooky ghost story along the lines of "The Changeling", you will probably be disappointed.

A good sequel to DOGMA as explained in the "back story." It seems the folks associated with DOGMA got death threats after making the movie. AND yet, there WERE folks that wanted MORE of Jay and Silent Bob. THIS film was the result. A hilarious look at Hollywood in a film that seems the LAST we may hear of these two "folks." And it was CLEARLY shown that "Silent Bob" is ONLY a screen persona, as Kevin Smith the actor/director is a VASTLY different personality.

I am simply addicted to this show. But the 7th and the 8th seasons were no so good as the first ones. Actually it starts to go down hill in this one... What I don't like about this season is that the characters start to get very malicious, different than the way they used to be on the previous seasons... so some episodes are just not so funny... I love this show, I lived the seventies! What a cool time to grow up! In this set, I especially enjoyed seeing Brooke Shields play Mom to Jackie and girlfriend to Bob. The scene where Jackie and Donna discover Pam (B Shields) in a hot tub with Bob is too funny. Jackie and Donna joining forces to try to split their parents up is a hilarious change. Aaah - the Seventies - when you could count STDs on one hand. And cure the worst with a round of penicillin.

I noticed a review from a customer with skips, freezes, etc. If you have a problem with freezing, skipping, etc with a disc from a boxed set, try playing it in a friend's DVD player to be sure it isn't your player. Back in 2003 I returned two different boxed sets of "Keeping up Appearances" thinking both were defective. Skips and freezes showed up in same place on same disc with both BOXED sets. With the third set, I decided to try in a friend's DVD player. It played perfectly. The problem had been my player all along. My defective player was a RCA DRC220N - discarded since 2003.

Anyone who would give a movie like this 5 stars obviously hasn't seen very many movies. I doubt that any of the major actors in the film would think of giving it that high of a score. It's making fun of great movies (like Meatballs) and lesser movies of the 80's. It's just a parody. Even a great movie like Meatballs (with superior acting, directing and production) doesn't deserve 5 stars. There are some funny scenes in the film, but that's about it. No surprise this film had me laughing with no end. The cast is almost identical to that of Role Models but with other additives like Michael Ian Black and now the ever so popular Bradley Cooper. An instant classic in my book, easy to relate to and you can't help but to smile at Amy Poehler's hairstyle and sea shell sweatshirt.

This isn't in the same league as Airplane! or Spaceballs. Here, the humor is more crude and . . . well . . . stupider. You won't get much toilet humor here, though. It's more about sex, homosexuality, stupid teenage girls, stoners, and, of course, the horror films of the late 90's. From "Scream" to "I Know What You Did Last Summer," It's always nice to see a spoof of these silly teenage horror flicks that give only cheap thrills. And not only that, there's even some "Matrix" and "Usual Suspects" thrown in. Despite its lack of originality, this is still very funny. So what if it's downright stupid? It's a comedy! It's made to make us all laugh. And MAN, did it make me laugh?

I'm not really into the more recent spoofs (like "Epic Movie" and "Dance Flick") that fail in many levels, but the first two "Scary Movie" flicks I really enjoyed watching. The first one, in particular, has to be the funniest out of all of them."WASSUP!!"

Scary Movie is a movie that makes fun of popular horror movies with the main parody being Scream. The movie is original and pretty funny. My favorite part is when the killer calls Shorty and they start going "Wussup!" over the phone. Almost every part with the killer is pretty funny. Of all four Scary Movies I think that the first one was the funniest. The DVD special features contain deleted scenes and a behind the scenes featurette. The movie also stars Shannon Elizabeth who played Nadia in the first two American Pie movies.

Ok, don't take me wrong... I didn't LIKE the movie, I only rate it high because it does genuinly deal with the issues 16-17 year olds deal with in the USA (believe it or not). The movie does have a few moments that made me laugh, but although I was not a participant in such nonsense during my highschool years, I couldn't stop pairing up the events next to those that I did see happen at school.

However, in real life, these things aren't as funny. Quite the opposite.

If you're a parent in the USA with kids in highschool, you must endure the pain to watch it. It's your duty.

Yes, Ms. Robert's acting is terrible. Yes, it is sometimes unbeleivably corny, but I challenge you to watch and not enjoy it. It is one of those great feal good movies that lets your mind float along, enjoying a simple, moving story full of eye-candy and loveable characters. I am with Ms. Goldsmith. I would love to see a dvd in widescreen. Not only would I sign a partition, I would pay a premium price for a copy.
