In a very low humidity room, I divided one 35g package into smaller zip-lock plastic pouches like jewelers use. As long as the package remains tightly sealed, it will last until needed. This is a wonderful product, but why pay more than we have to?

This is a medium to somewhat less than medium quality kit. There are a large number of items, but the quality of the case is poor, the quality of the instruments is mediocre, and overall I was not pleased when I received it. When I opened it up, much of the contents fell out. So, I glued the plastic insert in the case to hold it together. You must open it at a 45 degree angle to keep the contents inside. Bummer. The printing on the case is cheap, as is the case. It does not fit together well enough to keep water out. Spend more money and get something better, or the same amount and something smaller but better quality. Just my opinion.

purchased this when my car battery died in carpool line one day and i didn't have jumper cables. while i feel better about having an emergency kit in the car at all times now, i feel i really could have spent the money on "really good" jumper cables and and put together the rest of the "kit" myself. not the best bang for the buck, but it serves it's purpose and i'm glad i have it.

Seventy-three pieces sounds like a great deal or bargain; however, keep in mind that one alcohol prep or small pamphlet is counted within that number. In addition, the accompanying hand-tools (e.g. screw driver, pliers) are of very low quality.

Overall, the kit is recommended, but users may consider supplementing the hand tools for better brands, such as Craftsman or Stanley, and adding other useful materials, such as air foam to fill tires, ice scraper (if one lives in cold climates), and much more.

As other reviewers have said, the description and pictures are misleading! Unfortunately for me, these reviews didn't go up until after I put in my order! I am very upset. This is the first time I've ever bought something from and been so misled. And for those that may not have read the other reviews, there is no hand chargeable flashlight or waterproof matches. Matches were replaced by ONE candle due to alleged shipping restrictions. How am I supposed light any of the candles WITHOUT matches?! Also, it is now a 65-piece kit. I don't know how it compares to the 63-piece kit, but I doubt the 2 extra pieces are anything more significant than bandages. One final thing is that there is a August 2010 expiration date listed on the front of the bag. I ordered two of these kits in anticipation for another cold Minnesota winter. I received it within 2 days since I have Prime. I am pleased with the kit overall, but am disappointed as well.

The kit seems sufficient with plenty to get by if I were to be stranded somewhere in the middle of no where. There's stuff to keep me warm, safe, and to signal others as well. Everything seems to be of mediocre quality, which is good enough for me.

However, it is different from what is described.

1) No Matches! The set of matches in both sets were replaced with another cheap candle due to shipping restrictions. What good are my 4 candles without matches?

2) The flashlight is NOT a hand-charged dual LED flashlight. Instead it is an ordinary cheap flashlight with two AA batteries.

The waterproof matches and the hand-charged flashlight were definitely selling points, and I'm not so sure I would have bought this particular set if it I knew these pitfalls ahead of time. Nonetheless, I'll keep them to save myself the hassle since I'm still better with the kits than without them.

I am planning on adding a few items before I chuck it into my trunk. Some hard candy, extra socks, some baggies to keep my feet dry in case I need to trudge through some snow, a container to melt snow in, chapstick, a medium sized and durable container of cat litter, and finally my trusty jumper cables.

The AAA traveler road assistance kit is a waste -- of space, money, and materials. Luckily I bought this for $8 in a clearance bin at my local sporting goods store. If I had bought it for $33 I would have been outraged. The emergency supplies are the worst quality imaginable, the flashlight is pathetically weak, even the bag it comes in isn't very good quality. The only reason this kit deserves even one star is because you can't buy this kind of "storage" bag and a pair of jumper cables for less than the $8 I paid. Save your money, and piece the kit together yourself.
