» The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock & roll history. I have shown the original version of this movie many times over the years in my classroom as part of a unit on Mozart and was very familiar with the content of the movie. This newer version contains scenes that were not in the original and I was not aware that scene 16 contains nudity until I showed it to my seventh graders-so beware! By the way, this movie is unrated as there were no ratings for movies at that time-the original does contain some inappropriate language which I explain to my students that the use of this language helps to explain Mozart's behavior.

This isn't as bad as some reviewers have made out, nor as good as others have said. There are some excellent selections (eg Where or When, Everytime we say Goodbye, Exactly like you) but overall the standard isn't up to the Paris session. As has been pointed out, the orchestra in Rio isn't quite as good as the Paris one. Diana's playing is fine, but her intonation is patchy with too many lazy sliding-up-to-the-note choices in the manner of Vera Lynn (for those Brits who remember her!)And the "singalong with Diana" bossa selections-which I'm sure were moving and atmospheric live-lose a bit when viewed on film. Anthony Wilson plays good consistently.As for everyone getting older, which some reviewers have observed, well that happens to all of us-and Diana still looks lovely. But Mr Hamilton has DEFINITELY eaten too many pies since Paris.....!Great Concert

Ok.....it is 2009 as I am writing this review....the Song Remains The Same was produced in 1973 and was released in 1976...so the critics noting the "bombastic", "excessives", or "egos" associated with this piece..(or the Jimmy Page guitar solo)..take a deep breath, and keep your perspective! Yes, there is an ample supply of fodder for "Spinal Tap" parody in this film, but this is also part of the intrinsic magic of this film.

In spite of the excesses, and the silly (but entertaining) excursions into the short "fantasy sequences"...this film ROCKS. Yeah, it was 1973, and there is some rock n' roll bloat, but there is also greatness, and sheer joy at the quality of the performances.

The Blu-ray of this film is very good. We are all fortunate that this movie was made because we have a record/time capsule of the rock scene circa 1973. Plus, one can have a greater appreciation for the humor of the rock parody "Spinal Tap"....watch one before or after the other...see how sophisticated we are in 2009...not!! (People will be laughing at 2009 in 30 years too.....)

I already had the standard DVD and wanted to expand. I have a Sony 550 blue ray player and a Denon 2309 receiver. Both are quite capable for the newest blue ray format. When I try to set up audio I do not have the option for Dolby HD. There isn't any option for audio other then delay and filter. Also their isn't any track listings. It is recorded in 24P that is good but I am not happy with the options.

This concert's music and performers are first rate. I especially enjoyed the segment with Yo Yo Ma. Some of the vocalists seemed out of place singing blues/jazz, but they were all excellent. Botti makes a wonderful host for the concert and keeps things interesting.

My only disappointment was in the video. The low lighting and soft focus maybe goes with the jazz - blues experience, but for a blu-ray DVD I still expected high-definition video. I project my DVDs on a 12 foot screen so video clarity or lack of it is noticeable. Seems like a standard DVD format would do as well for this concert.

If you are a fan of Iron Maiden, this is the biggest no-brainer in the history of mankind. Watching this concert in 1080P projected on a 133" screen is awe inspiring. The DTS-HD MA audio mix is appropriately aggressive and captures the band's sound perfectly. It definitely helps that the band is obviously having fun with the enthusiastic crowds, and are in fine form, especially vocalist Dickinson, who sounds effortless hitting all of his signature high notes throughout the set. I may be crazy, but he appears to have even better control of his voice now than on earlier concert films like the classic "Live After Death" when he was barely 26 years old (and theoretically in his prime!). Impressive indeed.

Drummer Nicko McBrain literally puts on a drum clinic on several songs, and the set provides some great angles of his playing, especially a particularly well edited segment of "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" which had my jaw on the floor. The guitar playing is also pretty great throughout, and surprisingly very tight considering there are 3 guitarists in the line-up. It's hard to pick "highlights" because the whole set is basically guitar riff heaven!

As others have stated, this is a great concert to introduce people to Iron Maiden. Oh, and there is also a pretty good documentary on the disk as well... ;)

The actual documentary is pretty light on content, and emphasizes fun moments more than shedding any real light on the inner workings of the band. I was ok with that, even as a pretty huge fan of Maiden since the 80's, but I can certainly understand where someone that wants to know what color underwear Steve Harris wears would be disappointed here. Ah well, you can't please everybody! And apparently there is a mountain of footage not used, so I'm sure we'll eventually see it released in a retrospective of some sort when the band gets to that point in their careers (10 years from now would be my guess).

But for now, I can't recommend this disk highly enough. Do not hesitate- even if you are only a casual fan- buy this NOW, especially if you have a good sound system and a 1080P display.

The first time I saw Iron Maiden was in San José, Costa Rica; I can`t believe how many people were to the concert; and how many people came for others countries. The show was fantastic, and they come back again a few months later. That was the best show I've witnessed in my life, can not wait for the departure of the Blu Ray.

There was immense anticipation for this set and content-wise it mostly does not disappoint. Everything included here is amazing and beautifully mastered.

What I do take issue with is the idiotic packaging (mostly air inside the box!), that is flimsy and easily damaged, especially if you mail ordered the set. Neil needs to find a new designer that can preserve his preferred "hand made" look without creating the monstrosity this box is. The box is way too big for the contents and the card that holds things in place inside is weak and badly designed. The book doesn't sit in place, no matter what you do...

I also have an issue with the fact that three previously released discs are included in this, making it a double buy for most Neil fans. Even though one is a "hidden" bonus, did Neil honestly think we wouldn't already have that anyway?

For what is included audio-visually, I'd give this 4.5 stars. The video is probably not suitable for blu-ray due to the quality of the original material, but that's a minor complaint when you get all of the audio in such glorious quality.

As this set stands though, two stars is enough as it is an over-priced piece of junk as far as nicely packaged box sets are concerned.DVD set has wrong discs in it.

Well this is enormously frustrating! I love Neil Young, and you have to love the effort. But my "10 DVD Disc" set has only about half DVD's and half CD's. What an annoying thing. Should I package it all up and send it back? That will take hours.
